It replaced Koyambedu as the city’s primary southbound bus stand, now serving all routes heading into southern Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry.

The terminus sits in Tambaram, on the GST Road (NH-32) corridor south of the city, giving it strong onward road connectivity toward Trichy, Madurai, and the far south. A dedicated Kilambakkam railway station is under construction alongside the bus terminus, and a metro extension has been proposed for the corridor, though neither is operational yet.
